As it was only Australia day a few days ago (well maybe almost a week now) i wanted to talk about something, or maybe more of a type of people, who i consider as very UN-AUSTRALIAN. It was my recent encouter with these folk that had led me to blog about them.
Sticklers…
If you are un aware of the term, a stickler is basically someone who’s main goal in life is the ruin the fun of others. They ruin the fun of others by ALWAYS sticking to the rules in any situation. Let me use what had happened to me a few days ago as an example.
A couple of days ago, a few of my friends and i, decided that they wanted to play some tennis at the local tennis courts and so we hired two courts (out of four) for an hour. After having a great time playing tennis we had realized that we had played on the courts for well over the hour. However no one had come to play on the courts, and so we decided to continue playing until someone who had booked the courts and wanted to play came. After a while two men arrived at the courts and started playing on one of the courts. Just to remind you, at the time there are four courts, we were playing on two, there were two spare and the men took one of the spare courts. Basically, there were enough courts to cater for both the men and our group of friends. Everything was fine.
However after about 20 minutes of playing the men started to question how long we had been playing on the courts for and if we had booked the courts. After we had replied that we had booked the courts earlier that hour. These men called up the owner of the courts to inquire how long we had booked these courts. Finding out that we had been there for longer then the hour we had booked the courts for, the men called the owner again who had then called us and asked us to leave the courts.
These men ruined our fun for no reason at all. After resisting the urge to scratch the car of the men, we decided to retire and head for home.
And this is basically what i think is wrong with the world today, the world is full of un-Australian sticklers. Its people like this that disturb the peace that cause wars in the world, encourage teenage crimes and hoons and basically make the world less of a nice place to live.
Maybe i am over reacting and exaggerating but we hear stories like this everyday, where old people who only have a few years to live, are being kicked out of their retirement homes because they can not afford it or where… well i can’t really think of anymore examples but im sure you get the point.
